'Commandant's House' by Meredith Howse was inspired by the impressionist artwork 'The House at Rueil' by Edward Manet comes the artwork.
This artwork is from a rear vestige of The Commandant's home in Port Arthur, Tasmania.
In 1844 Commandant William Champ took over management of Port Arthur penal colony in Tasmania.
He requested new structures, which were built by convicts, to the back of his home, amongst the gardens.
The rear of the house and gardens reminded the artist of Manet's artwork.
